the summers a buzz

June 30th, 2008

things are crazy around here this summer. not only did we hire our latest intern for the summer but we also hired tim who will be working in our papermill helping to produce our wonderful papers! just a few of the changes that we are doing to keep up with all the orders. all of this has kept me busy rearranging things yet again to make room for all the new drying racks and vats. but one thing i still try to find time to do (usually over my lunch) i read my friends blogs. richelle over at girlmetro had a link on her blog to help, which i could not help but wast quite some time on it!

interns…

June 16th, 2008

we have had such a great time over the last year with all the interns. they come wanting to learn about letterpress but once they see and here the splash of water and pulp they get excited to try it themselves. point in case is jennell! she came for a two week internship in letterpress and we liked each other so much that she has stayed on as a employee for the summer!

i thought id mention to anyone out there that if your interested in learning how to make paper or enjoy letterpress printing to drop us a line. all our contact info is at porridgepapers.com. what do you get out of it you ask?? experience,  knowledge and a great time. we do not pay anything but you will leave us in tears and full of goodies and maybe just maybe a job. everyone that comes becomes part of the porridge family!

farwell…brizida

June 16th, 2008

our spring intern has left us.brizida has been such a hoot to work with over the last few months. like all our interns she became family…she enjoyed barbeque’s a few drinks and of course a farewell party that involved mojitos and ddr! she has contributed some incredible design for our new designer series. over on our etsy site her work is incorporated into some plantable wine tags, plantable cards and plantable pillow boxes. it all came about as samples and to showcase our plantable papers for gifts and promotions. once we saw the designs we thought we might offer them up for sale as well. even though she will be traveling the world we have plans to work with her in the future so say tuned. we wish both her and her husband, nelson the best! they will be missed.

our hands are on it!

May 30th, 2008

our hands our on it

in case you did not know…we touch every single piece of paper that leaves our mill. why you ask, well we make it, we print it and we pack it. all of it right here in lincoln nebraska. we say that only because we get asked that question a lot more then you would think. we love what we do and also feel we should pay our papermakers a fair wage. so with your support of buying usa made you will help keep that dream alive…and should it be a dream!

thanks for you support!

love these plantable invitation

May 30th, 2008

here is a new invitation that we did with basil seeds embedded in the paper. the best part about these is the rsvp card was perforated so the direction card and rsvp card were one. kristie at a anjenu in chicago was the designer, great work!

brizida learns to make paper

May 27th, 2008

so brizida is working on designs for a new series of plantable cards, plantable wine tags and plantable pillow boxes. i ordered the plates last week and we should go to press with them on friday. we all decided that she should also make the paper as well. so when all is said and done, she designed made the paper and printed the new items. stay tuned as well will be selling them on etsy and we will be putting together a wholesale catalog as well. this is just the start!

she loved the process! but then who wouldn’t?

re-remodel and expansion

May 27th, 2008

so here i go again…sam rolls her eyes and does not even bother to ask questions! why you ask? we have gotten so busy with the handmade paper, more specifically plantable paper, that we are moving the letterpress studio to the other side of the building and getting rid of half the retail since we really don’t sell much and we are more of a wholesaler and custom papermill/letterpress studio.

around the mill

we still have some electrical lines to move and a wall to demolish and expand our drying room and then and maybe then my work will be complete??

around the mill

stay tuned for more…

done at last, done at last

May 11th, 2008

a big thank you!

the stationery show is around the corner and we just finished shipping out the last of the paper on friday (well except for one small order on monday). it has been insane over the last three weeks, the mill has been running 16 hour days with two days of that whole time. i for one am glad to finally enjoy the weekend, and who knew it, i have a family!

i wish everybody the best at the national stationery show!

now it is back to normal schedules, product development and summer interns…welcome to “camp porridge”.  we have revamped our wine tags and also came out with small favor boxes, all in plantable seed paper so you can give a gift that keeps giving.
